Neck Pain, Neck Ache, Headache, Headaches, Migraine, Migraines, Neck Injury, Neck Trauma, Most people experience neck pain at one time or another. When it happens, a person may wonder what caused it? He may not recall doing anything to bring it on. It is important to understand why neck pain happens in order to avoid it in the future. There are a number of things that can cause it. In fact, it can be something so insignificant that one may not even realize it is the source of his pain. What are some of these things?

  • Sleeping on a pillow that does not properly support the neck, such as the head to being too elevated or lying flat.
  • Sleeping on your stomach with the neck bent or in a twisted position.
  • Resting the head on an upright fist or arm for a long period of time.
  • Exercising or doing work that uses the upper body muscles, such as working overhead or painting a ceiling.
  • Keeping the muscles of the neck and shoulders tensed because of focusing too hard or being stressed.
  • Holding a phone to your ear with your shoulder or straining to see over a tall person at a movie theater.

Any activity that causes repetitive motion or straining of the neck can incur neck pain as the end result. Over-extending the muscles of the neck and shoulders can cause damage to ligaments leading to spasms of the neck muscles or a sprained neck. Being aware of these things can help a person avoid neck pain in the future.

Seeking the Care of an Upper Cervical Chiropractor for Neck Pain

In some cases, these types of activities can lead to pain that lingers. If this is the situation, seeking care is vital to alleviating neck pain. During an evaluation, I will look for any misalignments that may have occurred due to muscle strain or injury. The neck is vulnerable to misalignments, particularly the C1 and C2 vertebrae. Once corrected, patients report feeling much better, and their overall health is positively affected.
