Neck Pain, Neck Ache, Neck Injury, Neck Trauma, Neck Alignment, text neck, texting Text Neck: The #1 Cause of Neck Pain Today

Neck pain seems to be more and more common in today’s busy world. One area that may be responsible for the increase in neck pain is that of mobile device usage. In fact, it is so commonplace that a special term, text neck, has been coined in order to describe what is happening. This term generally refers to the neck pain resulting from regular use of a smartphone or other similar device. Why does this cause neck pain?

One factor has to do with the weight of the human head. It can weigh up to 12 pounds. The problem cpaomes in when a person leans his head forward. This puts additional stress on the neck. Even if one has his head at just a 15-degree angle, 27 pounds of pressure is now being exerted on the neck. If the angle Is 60 degrees, then 60 pounds of pressure is being exerted on the neck. Therefore, it makes sense that when one is always looking down as his phone, the neck is the part of the body to suffer the most.

Interestingly, neck pain is not the only negative impact on the body from text neck. Keeping the body at this angle can also compromise the functioning of the lungs. Lung capacity can be reduced by as much as 30%. Headaches, back pain, and other related problems can ensue. Misalignments of the neck can also become a problem.

Neck Pain Relieved by Proper Spinal Alignment

If a misalignment has occurred in the upper neck bones, particularly the C1 or C2, it can be a source of neck pain. Here at Source Chiropractic and Wellness, we use a gentle method that helps restore spinal health. If soft tissue and nerves have been affected, the body can begin to repair this once the misalignment is corrected. This often leads to a person feeling healthier overall. Neck pain is often reduced or even eliminated.
